A new rear view camera for bicycles has been unveiled which could help to reduce bicycle accidents throughout the world. An American company called Cerevellum has developed the revolutionary camera, which has been named the Hindsight 30. The camera, which is attached to the bottom of the bicycle seat, includes an LED light to help during night time cycling.

The Hindsight 30 includes a 3.5 inch LCD screen which is attached to the handlebars. The image from the camera is projected onto the LCD screen to give the cyclist a clear view of what is behind him. It is hoped that the Hindsight 30 will help to prevent bicycle accidents, but if an accident does occur the anticipated Hindsight 50 could help to shed light on the cause of the accident, including who was at fault. The Hindsight 50 will work like the equivalent of the black-box recorder in aircraft. The Hindsight 50 will record a continuous loop of video. If the inbuilt sensor detects a sudden shock, like what would be caused if the bike was involved in an accident, the camera will continue to record for a further 10 seconds, save the data and then switch off.

The recording saved by the device could be vital evidence as to the cause of a bicycle accident. It could also aid the victim of the accident to make a bicycle accident claim, by acting as proof that the third party was to blame for the accident and subsequent injuries caused to the cyclist.
